George Hewitt - Founder of Hewitt

George Hewitt and Son Jewellers is a fourth generation family business established in 1871 by local farmer and renowned horseman George Hewitt. His son John took over the reins in the early 1900's but due to failing health his wife Florence the first lady driver in Grimsby, ran the business from the mid 1930's. Their son Arthur started work at the shop in 1938, a year later the business moved from number 80 to number 10 Victoria Street. Arthur was joined by his older brother David in 1945 after serving in the RAF during World War II. Arthur's son Jonathan joined the business in 1975 straight from school to learn the trade from his father and uncle. Today G. Hewitt & Son is run by Jonathan Hewitt assisted by shop manager Peter Booker FGA (Fellowship of the Gemmological Association) and a long serving dedicated staff. An inextricable part of George Hewitt & Son's history is that they have been selling Rolex watches for over 80 years.
